HexSign vs Appcircle
Appcircle describes itself as an Enterprise-Grade Mobile CI/CD Platform, available in the cloud or fully self-hosted, with a Signing Identities module that stores certificates and provisioning profiles centrally. It supports automatic and manual signing, can generate certificates and CSRs without a Mac, registers devices into profiles, covers Development, Ad Hoc, App Store and In-House profiles, and re-signs binaries when a profile changes. It also warns you before a certificate or profile expires, and its CLI will download either one to a build machine. This is a closer comparison than most on this site. HexSign does one narrower thing: it owns the lifecycle of that signing material without owning the build platform around it.
TL;DR
- Appcircle's Signing Identities module is a real central store for certificates and profiles, it issues certificates and CSRs without a Mac, and it keeps its own activity log. On that surface the two products genuinely overlap.
- Appcircle does document expiry notifications: in-app, and optionally Email, Slack and Microsoft Teams, at 30, 15, 7, 3 and 1 days out plus the day itself. What it does not document is routing them to an on-call tool. HexSign also alerts Jira, PagerDuty, Jira Service Management and incident.io, at thresholds you choose.
- Renewal is the real split. Appcircle renews a certificate when someone clicks Renew, then revokes the old one and regenerates the associated profiles automatically. HexSign runs a daily job that reissues and rebuilds 30 days out, so nobody has to click.
- Both can feed another CI: appcircle signing-identity certificate download and provisioning-profile download exist, as does the HexSign CLI. The difference is what comes with them. Appcircle's store is part of the build platform, HexSign's is not attached to one.
- Appcircle is ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certified and can be fully self-hosted. If your compliance team needs either of those, Appcircle wins that column outright. Its paid tier is quote-based; HexSign publishes its prices.
